Job Description:

Our client is looking for a Director of Platform Engineering who will build and lead a high performance software development team to create their next-generation platform. The platform will be an application run on linux-based systems which will allow their core software components to run on top of it in production environments. This platform will enable better operational deployment by providing services such as installation and version/configuration management, logfile handling, and APIs for the core applications to send monitoring messages and status information. The platform will also provide system administrators with a mechanism to schedule events or data loading (flat files consisting of gigabytes of data and data streaming over listening sockets at rates of 100s of messages per second) and monitor their status and/or output.

The ideal candidate is someone who has a proven track record for innovation in this area. The successful implementation of a platform of this scale will be highly strategic in our client's technological development, enabling the company to continue its rapid growth by increasing the scalability and maintainability of its products. The Director of Platform Engineering will report directly to the VP of Software Operations.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Gathering requirements and shaping the architectural development of the platform while seeking ongoing feedback from the technical leadership of the company. Our client is looking for the platform to automate many complex, domain-specific, manual processes currently performed by Operations staff during deployments or support activities.
• Creating, communicating and adjusting the product roadmap and delivery plan based on deliverables and milestones
• Guiding and managing a team of high performing platform engineers and ensuring that software development best practices are consistently followed.
• Acting as chief evangelist for the platform, making sure that the APIs are clearly written and communicated to the Application Integration team and Engineering staff.

Job Requirements:
• The ideal candidate will have designed, created, and supported a platform for multiple business-critical products that handled functions such as deployment, configuration management, event handling, monitoring, logging, and reporting. Having worked in a distributed Unix/Linux environment is a huge plus.
• Strong computer science and system competencies, including a deep understanding of networking, the interaction between software and hardware in a Linux environment, and excellent architectural and design ability.
• Track record of consistently delivering products on-time and to specifications.
• 7+ years experience in managing software development staff.
• 4+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• BS in Computer Science or related engineering field. MS/PhD is highly desirable.
• This position does not require travel.

This position requires a dynamic, innovative, and disciplined leader with 15+ years overall experience in a system/embedded engineering environment. • Coordination of the activities of a multi-site, multi-vendor solution team (sometimes consisting of clients)

• Administration of a system portfolio
• Joint creation of standards, guidelines, and information processes with the centers of excellence and senior leadership team
• Liaison to the Service and Business Unit teams in order to support business initiatives
• Creating and managing a project plan, schedule, and budget for Engineering efforts in conjunction with Program Management
• Facilitation of client meetings; specifically requirements gathering and scoping sessions

Essential Functions:

Education:

Experience:
Ten or more years of industry experience in roles that demonstrate strength and increasing impact in putting new or emerging technologies to practical, demonstrable use. Varied and increasing technical challenge in telecommunications including wireless technologies. Experience in developing software systems that interact with mobile telephony and network devices. Specific knowledge of, and production-related experience with, the following:

• 10+ years experience directing information system or product development efforts in a leadership capacity on projects in excess of $500,000 with a minimum of 10 direct reports
• 5-10+ years application development experience within a Microsoft and (or) UNIX environment
• Experience leading the implementation of large scale applications (i.e. high volume, complexity, and availability)
• Domain expertise in the area of Contact Center technology or Telematics
• Experience implementing Telephony centric applications
• Familiarity with networked applications, common protocols, and formats i.e. FTP, SMTP, TCP/IP, EDI, XML, SNMP, SMS, SMPP, SMTP, HTTP, GPRS, and 1xRTT.

The Release Engineer will be the packaging expert responsible for all product builds, installation tools and enterprise licensing schemes.

The Release Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving the build environment for our client’s products. He/She will work with a diverse team of QA engineers, technical writers, taxonomy specialists and software developers, both in-house and outsourced. The Release Engineer ensures the implementation of operational policies and a variety of release configurations to ensure high quality, on-time delivery of scalable N-tier software, documentation, taxonomies and installation tools:

• Design and manage automated build, release and maintenance processes
• Support the build environment and work to upgrade/enhance the system as necessary
• Create appropriate tags and branches within the version control system
• Create and manage the development and test lab framework, including hardware and software administration
• Automate product installation and licensing management using various tools and scripts according to product specifications
• Provide deployment and troubleshooting support

The successful candidate will have each of these key attributes:

Leadership: 2+ years of hands-on experience as a release and build engineer in a commercial software setting. An entrepreneurial bent evidenced by additional work experience in a web design company or small ISP provider would be considered an asset. A motivated self-starter with great attention to detail, willingness to take on new challenges, take ownership for problem solving and expand your technical horizons is essential.

Technical Expertise: A significant number of the following skills and technologies are relevant experience:

• Significant expertise with version control systems (e.g. Subversion, CVS, etc.)
• Linux system administration and scripting tools
• Software configuration management principles and build processes
• Familiarity with commercial release life cycle methodologies, project management, quality assurance
• Familiarity with source code and build challenges for Java, C++, HTML, XML, Web Services, SOAP

Software Development Manager
Title: Software Development Manager

Location: U.S. Northeast – Boston Area

Job Profile:

Responsible for managing a software development group that designs, implements, and delivers core software. Duties include the architecture and design of the required software systems, implementation of the code using C#, including unit testing and verification of the code. In this highly visible role you will have significant interaction with hardware engineering and other cross-functional organizations.

Skills & Experience Required:

• BSCS, BSCE, BSEE or equivalent MS desirable and 7 -12 years experience in developing windows system software.
• Must have a background dealing with large complex computer-intensive applications, utilizing large datasets development. Must also have experience with commercial applications.
• Requires a minimum of 2 years as a manager supervising a team of at least 20 individuals.
• Ideal candidate will have related experience developing software applications that “control hardware products” in “real-time” environments
• Solid grasp of Object-Oriented Design, .NET and C# based programming.
• COM experience required.
• Visual Basic a plus
• Must have experience in rapid prototyping including a solid grasp of software data structures, and architectural frameworks.
• General knowledge of the software development process with a very strong orientation in process
• Ability and interest in working with hardware engineers

Take the lead in delivering tactical solutions to our client company’s customer base. As the manager of our client’s Sustaining Engineering Team, you will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of software applications. This includes bug fixing and light feature development. Primary responsibilities include the coordination of maintenance activities across Product Management, Development and Customer Support, as well as within the maintenance team. Your team's work will have an immediate, positive impact on our client’s customers.

Responsibilities:
• Review current processes and procedure and determine changes needed to maintain existing software products for a growing customer base.
• Participate in design and code reviews. Work with Product Management and Customer Support to triage issues.
• Work with the maintenance team to define the most effective and efficient solution to customer's problems.
• Motivate and mentor a matrixed team.
• Participate in design and code reviews.
• Manage end-to-end maintenance process.
• Insure internal and external customer satisfaction.

Required Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of and experience with the following: C++ (including memory management), multithreading, Java
• Excellent understanding of software engineering principles, specifically development and release lifecycle processes.
• Experience with the building and releasing of C++ and Java applications.
• In-depth knowledge of Windows, Linux environments.
• Source control experience with Subversion preferred.
• Process and detail oriented.
• Proven analytical/problem solving ability.
• Good communication skills both written and verbal.
• Desire to work in a fast paced team oriented environment.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
